DO:
Perform an engineering inspection
Perform a termite inspection
Get quotes from various lenders for your financing needs
Assume the transaction will take between 2-3 months to complete
Obtain a survey
DON'T:
Assume you will close within 30 days - even if you are told you will
Believe the other parties to the transaction have your best interests at heart
Use an attorney that does not concentrate in real estate law (especially if the transaction takes place within the five boroughs)
If currently renting, do NOT surrender your apartment without discussing the matter with your attorney first
